About Brightside
Opened above a bike shop in 2012. Still on the same street.
Dr Amara Boateng started with one surgery, one nurse and a rule that has not changed: the price goes on paper before the patient sits down. There are now six surgeries, eleven clinicians and the same rule.
What we do differently.
Nothing exotic. We publish prices, we book longer appointments than the average practice, and we photograph every case so you can see the work rather than take our word for it.
The team
Eleven clinicians. These six you will meet first.
Every clinician here is registered with the General Dental Council. Numbers are shown so you can check any of us on the register.
Dr Amara Boateng
BDS Leeds, MSc Implant Dentistry Manchester. Placed just over 900 implants. Opened Brightside in 2012 above a bike shop on Otley Road.
Dr Ravi Chandran
BDS Sheffield, MSc Orthodontics. Invisalign Diamond provider, around 1,200 aligner cases and 300 fixed brace cases.
Dr Lucy Fairhurst
BDS Newcastle. Bonding, veneers and whitening. Trains our nurses on photography so every case is recorded properly.
Kirsty Nolan
Dip DH, Dip DT. The clinician nervous patients ask for by name. Runs our gum health programme.
Dr Sam Okoro
BDS Birmingham. Microscope root canals, four days a week. Takes the cases other practices refer out.
Helen Ashcroft
Runs the diary, the plans and the CQC file. Twelve years in dentistry, nine of them here.
Nervous patients
The six promises, in full.
Tell reception when you book and the note goes on your file. It stays there, so you never have to explain it again.
Tell us before you sit down
The note is on your file. Nobody asks you to explain it twice, and nobody uses the word relax.
Stop signal that works
Raise a hand and everything stops, including the drill. We wait as long as you need.
Longer first appointments
Forty minutes, so the first visit can be talking and looking rather than treatment.
Numbing before the numbing
Topical gel first, then the slowest injection in Leeds. Most people tell us they missed it.
Sedation when you want it
Inhalation sedation for £180, or intravenous sedation with our own sedationist for £395.
Prices on paper, always
A written plan with every price before treatment starts. No decisions made in the chair.
Standards and inspections.
We are inspected by the Care Quality Commission, our clinicians are on the GDC register, and our decontamination room is audited twice a year. The last CQC report is on the wall in reception and posted on request.
