A news home for Türkiye's space community: Uzay Haberleri.
Turkish space enthusiasts asked for a dedicated home for launch coverage and astronomy news, so we built them one: a category-driven news platform with an editorial back office the community runs itself, funded by advertising instead of client budgets.
Some briefs come from boardrooms. This one came from the readers themselves.
Overview
Uzay Haberleri began as a request from the people who would read it. A group of Turkish space enthusiasts wanted a dedicated home for launch coverage, astronomy news and space-industry stories, and asked us to build it for them. In 2019, over four months, we designed and delivered that platform as a complete news site.
The build had two audiences. Readers needed a fast, clean reading experience that took a niche subject seriously. The team behind the site needed a newsroom they could actually operate: we set up the content system so that publishing a story, curating categories and shaping the homepage required no developer at all.
And the site had to pay its own way. The plan was an advertising-funded model, so ad placements were designed into the layout from day one, positioned to earn without ever burying the stories they funded.
The Challenge
A demanding niche audience, a non-technical team, and a site that had to fund itself.
Space readers notice sloppy details; credibility had to be designed in, not claimed.
The team behind it were enthusiasts, not engineers; the newsroom had to run without a developer.
News dies fast; publishing had to be quick enough to keep pace with launch schedules.
Ad revenue had to fund the platform without burying the stories it funded.
A newsroom, not just a website.
A category-driven news platform with an editorial back office the community runs on its own, and an advertising layout planned in from day one.
Built to run on readership.
The bottom line.
Uzay Haberleri shipped in four months as a working newsroom: a category structure covering launches, astronomy and industry news, an editorial back office the community operated entirely on its own, and an ad-funded layout that kept the reading experience first.
For us it remains a reminder that not every platform starts as a business plan. This one started as a reader's wish, and it left patterns we still reach for: publishing workflows built for non-technical teams, and monetisation designed into a layout rather than bolted onto it.
