The house
Michael bought numbers 14 and 16 in 2014 and spent two years putting them back together: the 1824 sash windows repaired rather than replaced, the staircase stripped, the basement vaults dug out for the spa. Eighteen rooms is what fits without the place feeling like a corridor, so eighteen is what we kept.
Rooms
Rates below are the lowest we publish and include breakfast. Every room is on the site with its own floor, size and outlook, so nothing is a surprise when the door opens.
The smallest rooms in the house and the quietest, tucked at the back away from the seafront road. Everything the larger rooms have, in less floor.
Original 1824 sash windows onto the square, restored shutters, and a marble bathroom put in during the 2016 refurbishment.
Front of the house, window the full width of the room, nothing between you and the water but the promenade. Secondary glazing keeps the road out of it.
The two best rooms in the building, on the first floor, with the wrought iron balcony and a separate sitting room. Two people fit comfortably and three fit fine.
Spa and dining
Four treatment rooms, a hammam and a small hydro pool in the vaulted basement, open to residents from seven in the morning until nine at night. Non residents can book treatments Tuesday to Sunday.
Breakfast is cooked to order until half ten, which in a house this size means the kitchen knows your table. Dinner runs Wednesday to Sunday, thirty two covers, one menu that changes when the boats change it.

Guests
We opened the shutters at six and watched the sea for an hour before anyone else was up. Breakfast was cooked properly and nobody rushed us out of the room.
Third year running. They remembered which side of the bed we each take, which sounds small and is not.
Four flights of stairs and no lift, and they said so plainly when we booked. Worth every step for the roof light over the bed.
Getting here
On the west side of Regency Square, facing the water. The car park is under the gardens in front of the house, and the station is twelve minutes downhill.
