About

Forty one people, six presses, one postcode.

Boxwell started in 2006 with a second-hand die-cutter and two customers. It is now a 41 person plant in Leicester that prints, cuts, glues and delivers without sending your job to a third party in the middle.

Why it is set up this way

Every step we own is a step nobody can blame.

Most packaging suppliers broker at least one part of the job. When the print is on time and the die-cutting is not, you get two stories and one late pallet.

We bought the die-cutters so we could stop explaining other people's delays. Litho, digital labels, cutting, gluing and dispatch all happen under one roof, on one production plan, so the date we give you on Monday is the date a person in this building is accountable for.

The one thing we do buy in is board, from three mills, so a shortage at one of them does not become your problem.

The people you deal with

Three names, not a shared inbox.

You get one estimator, one print manager and one designer for the life of the account. They answer their own email.

Rachel Okonjo

Rachel Okonjo

Estimating and technical sales

Twenty years pricing corrugated. Rachel is the one who tells you the box you asked for is the wrong box, before you pay for the tool.

Martin Vasey

Martin Vasey

Print manager

Runs the litho hall and signs the first-off on every job. If a proof and a sheet disagree, the sheet gets stopped.

Owen Bradbury

Owen Bradbury

Structural design

Draws the die-lines and cuts the samples. Owen will drop test a pack loaded to its real weight before he calls it finished.

How an order runs

The same five steps, whether it is 250 boxes or 250,000.

  1. Send a spec or a sample. A drawing, a competitor pack, or the thing you need to post. Dimensions and a quantity are enough to start.
  2. Price and die-line. An itemised price and a CAD die-line by email, usually the same day, always inside one working day.
  3. Proof and sign-off. A PDF proof, and on a new tool a plain sample in the real board. Nothing runs until you sign the proof.
  4. Print and convert. Litho, flexo or digital on our own presses in Leicester. Every run gets a first-off check against the signed proof.
  5. Deliver or hold. Next-day pallet delivery, or we hold the stock and you call it off. Storage is free for the first 90 days.

Come and watch your job run.

Customers are welcome on the floor with a day's notice and a pair of safety boots. Most people leave with a better box than they arrived asking for.
