About the shop
Forty years on the same stretch of river.
Tyne Fabrications has fabricated steel at Walker Riverside since 1986. Sixty-one people, 2,800 m² under two 10 tonne cranes, and a plate that goes out of the door with a certificate attached to it.
We would rather price it properly than win it cheap.
Most of our work comes from four or five main contractors who have used us for a decade. That relationship only holds if the take-off is honest, the approval drawings are right and the wagon turns up in the sequence the erection gang asked for. So that is what we manage, week by week, on a board everyone can see.
Who runs it
The four people you will deal with.
Started as an apprentice plater in 1989 and bought the business in 2011.
Runs the programme board and the weekly call with every main contractor.
Models every frame in Tekla and issues the mark drawings for approval.
Responsible welding coordinator under ISO 3834-2. Signs off every WPS.

Safety
The board by the door.
These four numbers are painted on a board at the entrance to the bay and updated every Monday morning. They are the first thing anyone sees on the way in.
Apprenticeships
Six apprentices on the books.
We take two plating and welding apprentices a year through the local college and keep them. Half our supervisors started that way, including the managing director. It is why our coding renewals pass first time and why the shop runs quietly.
Come and see the bay.
Contractors and engineers are welcome to walk the shop before they place an order. Ring ahead so we can get you a helmet.
